The daily recommended amount of water for a long time was 64 oz. (usually eight 8 oz. cups of water). However, in recent years, the recommended amount of water consumed in a day has increased.  In fact, I believe you should consume one gallon of water per day.  We are constantly losing water from our bodies, primarily from our urine and sweat.  In addition, we consume lots of fluids in addition to water, including protein powders, pre-workout formulas, creatine, coffee, and tea.  Anybody participating in a workout program should drink an additional one to two cups of water depending on the length and intensity of their workouts.  Often, thirst gets confused with hunger, since both trigger the same types of signals in your brain. It is better to drink 8 to 16 oz. of water first before eating, because you may not actually be hungry.

If you have trouble keeping track of your water intake, simply measure it out with 16 oz water bottles, a one gallon jug, or this 20 oz. CASS Fitness water bottle.
